The New Monopoly Token is…. A Cat!

The new token

As I posted earlier, Hasboro has been allowing the world to vote on what Monopoly token will be retired and which new one will take it’s place. I voted to retire the iron and replace it with the robot.

Well, the internet world has spoken, and the iron will, indeed, be retired. And it will be replaced by a cat. Which is, I guess, fair since there’s been a dog for many years.

This is your last chance to buy the iconic board game with the original set of tokens. So if you can’t stand change, buy the classic version before it’s too late.

And if you’d like to see the official results in a cute animation, check out their Facebook page.

There’s a new Monopoly token in town. Who will be replaced?

You may be playing Monopoly with this guy very soon.

I often play Monopoly on my iPhone. I’m not sure why…I’m convinced it cheats. But when I play I’m always the little dog, in spite of the tinkling noise he makes when he runs around the board.

When I found out that Hasbro is going to retire one of their iconic game tokens I was worried that it might be the end of the little dog.

But Hasbro has done something quite cool. They are letting the public not only vote on which game token is retired, but also on what will replace it.

Your choices for a replacement token are a bit limited. You can choose a robot (my choice), a cat (makes sense since there is a dog), a helicopter, a diamond ring, and a guitar.

I like the robot, but I hope they get rid of his mustache if he is chosen.

So if you feel strongly about what game pieces are kept and which ones replace the unfortunate one retiree, head over to their Facebook page and place your votes.

Voting runs until February 5, 2013 and the new token will be revealed on February 6.

The last time I checked, my little Scottie dog was in the lead to be kept with 31% of the votes. The wheelbarrow was doing poorly with only 4% of the votes.

If you can’t bear to see any of the iconic pieces gone, you might want to buy the classic board game
before the pieces are changed. Of course that might be exactly what Hasbro had in mind with this clever marketing all along.
